SUMMIT, New Jersey – The Discovery Orchestra (“the Orchestra”) recently received a $2,500 grant from the Investors Foundation. The grant will help further the Orchestra’s mission of teaching music listening skills by providing interactive and accessible programs virtually for audiences in North Central New Jersey and beyond.
The Orchestra applied for the grant from the Investors Foundation, which supports non-profit organizations that enrich the diverse communities served by Investors Bank.
“The Orchestra’s interactive program formats give patrons opportunities to actively listen to classical music, rather than simply hear it. I am so pleased that these types of meaningful listening experiences are accessible to audiences both locally in New Jersey and worldwide through our expanding media offerings,” said Virginia Johnston, Executive Director of the Orchestra. “We are thrilled to have community partners like the Investors Foundation who continue to support our mission and work.”
The Investors Foundation grant will help underwrite the Orchestra’s 2020-21 live and media programs for the public, which include two live Discovery Concert broadcasts on radio station WWFM, The Classical Network, as well as Inside Music, an educational radio program also on WWFM. Additionally, the grant will support the resumption of the Orchestra’s Outreach Programs virtually for music student partner organizations in Morristown, Newark, Paterson and Trenton. The Orchestra’s website has a curated “Learn at Home” page for providing music educators free access to digital music listening resources.
