Maestro Maull continues to reference text painting as he looks at Beethoven’s incredible ability to make Friedrich Schiller’s words so much more powerful than they would be were they just spoken or read silently. Beethoven’s deft manipulation of texture, moving from unison to chords. . .all in the service of the text is also discussed. The reappearance of the Turkish street band at the very end brings the movement to its ‘over the top’ conclusion.
